[맘스커리어=김현주 미주특파원] 핼러윈데이를 맞아 이웃과 사랑을 나누는 특별한 행사가 열려 화제이다.

 

지난 10월 31일 콜로라도 주 거니슨의 레이크스쿨(Lake Preschool and Kindergarten. Gunnison. CO) 유아반 70여 명은 자신들이 고른 코스튬을 입고 지역 요양원(Gunnison Valley Health Senior Care Center)을 찾아가는 이벤트를 열었다. 어르신들 앞에서 코스튬 퍼레이드와 노래 율동을 선보이고 초콜릿과 사탕을 나눠드렸다.

매년 어린이들의 요양원 행사를 주최하는 레이크스쿨의 제네프 케네디 교장은 “오늘 스쿨버스를 타고 요양원에 가면서 어린이들과 선생님들 모두 긴장했다. 그런데 어린이들이 연습한 것보다 더 밝은 모습들로 자신감 있게 공연을 보여줬고 몸이 불편한 할아버지, 할머니들이 박수 치며 웃으시다 눈물까지 글썽거렸다"며 "행사는 성공적으로 마무리되었고 우리 모두의 마음을 따뜻하게 한 것 같아 기쁘다"고 소감을 전했다.

 

이어 “이 행사를 통해 어린이들이 어른들을 존중하고 사랑할 줄 아는 마음과 태도를 배웠으면 한다. 또한 사랑은 받기 만 하는 것보다 상대방에게 나눠 주는 것이 더 기쁜 일이라는 것을 알았으면 한다”고 전했다.

Lake School Pupils Spread Halloween Cheer at Gunnison Valley Health Senior Care Center

 

Halloween at Lake Preschool and Kindergarten, in Gunnison, Colorado, took a heartwarming turn this Oct.31. In what is becoming a cherished tradition, approximately 70 preschool students visited Gunnison Valley Health Senior Care Center.

 

Wearing their favorite costumes, these youngsters captivated their elderly audience with singing and dancing routines and then handed out chocolates and candies to the delighted grandmothers and grandfathers in a "reverse trick-or-treat".

 

Lake School's Principal, Jeniffer Kennedy, who ensures this endearing event is hosted annually, was approached for a comment.

 

Q. What did you feel today as an event organizer?

 

I was just over joyed with the success of our trip to the senior center today! The opportunity to teach young children to give rather than receive warmed all of our hearts!

 

The students showed their true Caring Colts character by spreading love and candy throughout the nursing home. We all left with full hearts!

 

Q. What do you want lake students to learn after this event?

 

It’s so important for students to be around elders, and learn to respect them for the wonderful human beings they are! We also really wanted to emphasize that sometimes giving is better than receiving.
